What Faja Do I Need After a BBL? A Patient-Safe Guide

What Faja Do I Need After a BBL? A Patient-Safe Guide

A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) combines liposuction with fat transfer to the buttocks. Because more than one area is healing, the right recovery garment should support the liposuction-treated areas without placing unwanted pressure on the transferred fat.

There is no single garment that is right for every BBL patient. Your surgeon should determine when compression begins, which areas need support, how long the garment should be worn, and which gluteal design is appropriate for your procedure.

What to Look for in a BBL Recovery Garment

Coverage that matches your procedure

The garment should cover the abdomen, waist, back, hips, or thighs according to the areas treated during liposuction.

A gluteal design approved by your surgeon

Depending on the surgical technique, your surgeon may recommend an open-gluteal design, reduced compression, or an anatomically expanded gluteal area.

Even, tolerable support

Compression should feel secure and supportive—not painful, crushing, or numb.

Practical closures

Zippers, adjustable hook-and-eye panels, and perineal openings can make dressing and bathroom use easier during early recovery.

A post-operative fit

Your pre-surgery clothing size is not enough to select a garment. Swelling, current measurements, and the areas treated must be considered.

Early Recovery vs. Later Recovery

Some brands use terms such as Stage 1 and Stage 2. These terms can be helpful when comparing products, but they are not universal medical standards.

An early-recovery garment is generally softer, easier to put on, and designed to accommodate swelling. A later-recovery garment may provide firmer support or additional adjustment as swelling decreases.

The timing of any transition should be based on your surgeon’s instructions and your current fit—not on a fixed online calendar.

Signs Your Garment Needs Professional Review

Contact your surgeon or qualified post-operative provider if the garment causes:

  • Increasing or severe pain
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Pale, blue, or discolored skin
  • Shortness of breath
  • New skin irritation or injury
  • Deep creases or uneven pressure
  • Pressure over an area your surgeon instructed you to protect

A garment that becomes noticeably loose may also need to be reassessed. Do not automatically choose a smaller or tighter size without guidance.

Questions to Ask Before Ordering

Before selecting your BBL recovery garment, confirm:

  • Which areas were treated with liposuction?
  • Where was fat transferred?
  • Should the buttocks be open, expanded, or lightly supported?
  • Are drains or incisions affecting the closure you need?
  • When should you take your post-operative measurements?
  • When should the garment fit be reassessed?
